Last week saw the launch of the new iPhone 3GS. What new cool stuff can we expect from Apple's baby, and what phones can take it on? Let's find out!

iPhone 3GS - What's new?

The first thing that will strike you about the iPhone 3GS is how fast and responsive it is. After all, the 'S' in the name iPhone 3GS does actually stand for 'Speed'. It's up to twice as fast as its predecessor was, and that increase in speed isn't the only new thing. You now get a 3 megapixel camera, a choice of 16 or 32Gb of storage space, and full voice control throughout the whole of the phone. Plus, of course, you get the cool factor that only comes from owning an iPhone 3GS.

Toshiba TG01 - can Windows Mobile compete?

Windows Mobile has taken a lot of stick form people in the past, most notably from Apple fans, but the new Toshiba TG01 brings it up to a level that can actually compete with the iPhone 3GS. You see, the Toshiba TG01 has the two things WinMo needs to make it run really well: a powerful processor (coming in at 1GHz) and a massive screen (coming in at an unbelievable 4.1 inches). Combine that with a custom front end, and the Toshiba TG01 lets Windows Mobile stand up to the slickness of the iPhone 3GS. And it quite simply runs rings round it in terms of power...

Palm Pre - the real iPhone killer?

While we're talking interfaces, though, both the Toshiba TG01 and the iPhone 3GS is outdone by a phone that's due to be released in the second half of the year: the outstanding Palm Pre. What it brings to the party is the most intuitive interface ever found on a mobile phone. The Palm Pre features slick animations and gesture controls throughout, so that everything you want to do is just a touch or a swipe away. There's little doubt, the Toshiba TG01 has the power, and the iPhone 3GS has got the cool factor, but the Palm Pre just can't be beaten in terms of interface.
