The iPhone is iconic, and has settled as the smart phone to beat. Its success has come from its excellent and friendly user interface, one device range on a single network, well developed app store and advanced marketing strategies.

However, many people still questioned why people still favoured the iPhone over other, more advanced smart phones. The iPhone lacked some very basic features, such as MMS, delete and forward individual messages. It also lacked standard smart phone features such as cut, copy, paste, search, landscape keyboard etc. there are so many other smart phones out there, which offer more functionality to the end user. Until now!

Apple finally listened to its customers, or applied yet another clever marketing strategy to its product. They brought out a major software update, iPhone OS 3.0. This update addressed the majority of lacking features with the existing iPhone 3G; it has been greatly appreciated by all current customers. However, at the same time of Apples announcement of the new software, they also announced their new addition to the iPhone family, the iPhone 3GS, where the S stands for Speed, not Steve where I wanted to believe. The iPhone 3GS with 3.0 brings the iPhone to the top of the class in terms of smart phones, the new software and new hardware upgrade will see the iPhone being even harder to beat. Although there are still a few features on the iPhone that are being bettered by their rivals:

' Camera: Even though the camera has had a revamp, it is still only 3MP, has no digital zoom and no flash. Although there are ways of getting digital zoom, the hardware itself cannot be improved by the user.

' Keyboard: The iPhone has a virtual keyboard, this can be off putting for some people, and other companies are taking advantage of this by having the option of both physical and virtual keyboards.

' Customisation: Unless jail broken, the iPhone will look the way apple wants it to look.

' Multi tasking: All smart phone manufacturers see this as an important feature, apart from apple, where each app has to be closed down before you can use another. They have compensated with the new feature of push notifications and increased speed.

' Flash player: The iPhone boasts the best browser on a mobile device, and yet it doesn't support Flash player, a plug in so commonly found when browsing the net.
